Jacob

Jacob is a ten-year-old boy who once sat quietly at the back of children’s church, silent, withdrawn, and easily overlooked. Though many assumed he was simply shy, leaders trained through EGM Uganda had learned ask deeper questions. Over time, they discovered that Jacob’s father had abandoned the family, leaving his mother to care for three children alone. Silence had become Jacob’s way of protecting his heart. During a lesson centered on Psalm 139—“I am fearfully and wonderfully made”—children were invited to share something God loved about them. When it was Jacob’s turn, he hesitated, then softly whispered, “Maybe… my drawings?” Encouraged, he later brought a drawing of Jesus smiling with children and shared his quiet longing to feel that smile too. When his artwork was honored and displayed, something shifted. Jacob slowly began to participate; reading Scripture, helping lead prayer, and encouraging others. Four months later, he stood confidently before the entire church and declared, “God gave me a voice so I can tell others that Jesus loves them.” Today, Jacob is one of the ministry’s most caring helpers, gently watching out for other quiet and hurting children, a living testimony of how God brings healing and purpose when children are truly seen and loved.
